A life in sports
Pete Smith has been around sports his whole life. He is the kind of fan who wants to know why a coach made the call. He loves talking about a coach's philosophy as much as the details of the X's and O's, and that pull toward the "why" runs through everything he writes.
Go to the source
Pete's books start with what the people involved actually said. Press conferences. Interviews. The players, coaches and teammates who were in the room. He gathers it, sorts it and puts it in one place so you don't have to dig through years of tape and transcripts to find it.
The goal is simple takes on complex topics. A book a veteran coach can learn from and a first-year coach or new fan can pick up and enjoy.
The Belichick books
His first two books let Bill Belichick explain his own approach. Bill Belichick: On Football covers his coaching philosophy, practice planning, game preparation and strategy. Bill Belichick: On Personnel covers how he builds a roster, how he evaluates players and what he thinks of Tom Brady. Both came out in 2018 and are on Amazon in Kindle, paperback and audiobook.
The Legend Series
The Legend Series takes the same idea to the biggest names in sports. Each book picks one legend and tells the stories the players still tell, in their own words. Book One is The Legend of Michael Jordan: thirty stories from the teammates, rivals and coaches who were there, from the 1984 draft to The Last Dance. When two people remember the same night differently, you get both versions and decide for yourself.
These are meant to be fun. Pull up a seat, the people who were there are ready to talk.
